Before airing the film Unstoppable: Bethany Hamilton, HIFF put on a red carpet event for everyone involved and having a VIP Press Pass allowed me to attend. All of the producers, directors, photo/sound team, and writes were there. On top of that, Bethany Hamilton was there with her family and friends. Pro surfers (both male and female) filled the red carpet. Seeing this was like a dream come true for me. It was so awesome to experience the first ever showing of this film with Bethany herself. Everyone was so nice and just excited to share Bethany’s story once more. The red carpet event allowed me to get an inside look on what all went in to producing the film and just how many people were involved. It brought the documentary to life right before my eyes and filled me with more emotion when I saw the people on screen in real-life. The red carpet allowed for questions to be answered and pictures to be taken. It was such a heart-warming experience to meet people that I have looked up to my whole life. Everyone was just as awesome as they were portrayed in the movie Soul Surfer, and now in the documentary film, Unstoppable: Bethany Hamilton. After the red carpet event, the film was put on in a movie theater closed off to Bethany’s friends and family, and VIP HIFF Pass holders. I will talk about the film in a later post, but after the film, the director and Bethany got together and answered questions in front of everyone once the documentary was over. It was so nice to see how proud they both were of the film (which they should be). They answered basic questions like “How long did it take to make?” and “What are your favorite parts of the film?” but my favorite is when Bethany Answered questions about her recovery and life after the shark attack incident. The red carpet event, film, and post film questions all allowed you to see Bethany Hamilton’s true colors and fall in love with her even more.
