Unfortunately I was only able to attend one of the films with HIFF because that week was an incredibly busy week for me and I thought that there were still films the following weekend, which there were, but on outer islands. I chose the film Downsizing as one of the films because of the interesting concept and interest many people took on the film. This film was comical yet had a well-developed seeming plot and storyline that made for a very intriguing story that I was interested in experiencing. For me personally, though this year I was only able to experience one film, I’ve always appreciated the togetherness in creatives this event brings together. I appreciate the opportunity and actual in person opportunity this gives students of our majors and interests. Where it is not closed off to just one genre or film even but giving students the opportunity to come together in where they are personally interested. Being able to be press is also a great and exciting opportunity for students. I remember freshman year being a part of this event and how authentic, new, and exciting this was for a young person interesting in being a creative. It not only opens our eyes to new art pieces but encourages and motivates students as well. Though I was only able to see one film this year, that one film truly moved me! It made me laugh but the actual humor made the audience think. The concept and storyline and a sub meaning that posed the audience to truly think without feeling like they had to but they naturally were able to. I really enjoyed it and the overall experience being press and seeing fellow students and our professor to then analyze how we all felt afterwards. The film Downsizing was really great in such a complex thought on the reality we’re in made fictional yet relatable to our present circumstances and how we should analyze our lives and choices. I appreciated and grew by one of the films main characters, and might I add who I think was the most comical, hilarious, and best character. Anywho, by this character, she moved me in my own values and what is truly important in this life. When people around her chased a better life for themselves in whatever that may be from success, money, popularity, etc. This character moved people and helped people, her life was all about how who she was was able to help and bless others, without selfish interests or underlying interest but by the faith and hope she had, she wanted to share it with others. So if one single film/experience can do that for me, the opportunity for that through all the mass of films there were from different cultural backgrounds to styles and genres is definitely a recommendation for anyone.
