Last night I went to Hawaii International Film Festival or we can call it HIFF to watch Bittersweet. This movie is a drama and also it is all about food and it is from Japan. I watched this because I love food and I was really curious what they are going to put in this movie.
Maki is a woman who work at advertisement and does not have time to eat or anything, so she just eat jelly at the office. One time she met a guy and turns out she live with him, but in one condition that he have to cook for her and Maki has to finish the meal. This guy named Nagisa, who is gay and vegetarian. He only eat vegetable and he only cook vegetable, so in his house there is no meat at all. Maki who really hate vegetable can become a vegetable lover because his cook is delicious. He cook vegetable but the taste is like a normal dish. Maki has a crush with him more. One time he persuade Maki to visit her parents because it is been a long time since she left home. Maki’s parents are surprise that Maki can eat vegetable and happy about it. Maki told the parents that it is because of Nagisa, Maki likes vegetable. Maki’s father really likes Nagisa and wants him to become Maki’s husband but Nagisa told her father that he likes man.
That is the highlight from this movie. The storyline is very interesting and the ending makes the audience thinking “are they going to be together?”. Let the audience choose the ending. I like the cinematography, it is simple and clean. I like the actress and the actor, they are funny and beautiful. I really like the setting of the office, I think it is really cool to work in the office like that.
I recommend this film, if you are a food lover and drama lover, so many delicious food in this film makes me want to eat just vegetable. This is such a cute movie and I do not want to miss if I were you.
