“Fresh Dressed” is a documentary movie by Sacha Jenkins and the co-producer, a rapper named Nas, which told us about the relationship of hip-hop and fashion, how fashion always been part of the hip-hop world. This documentary shows us the background of hip-hop and fashion.
The documentary included interviews of famous stars, including Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. “Fresh Dressed” also shows us that now not only actions and words that can send messages but branded things can be messages too. Jenkins says in an interview with Rolling Stone, “The film jumps from era to era, but if you pay attention, you can see how fashion went from this thing that represented who you were as a gang member to who you were as a crew member, and then it went to commerce”.
I think that this is such a great documentary movie that could be an eye-opener for us. Recently, when I see typical rappers who use branded things as their outfits, that really represent them and in my opinion, it is already part of their cultures, which are fame, money, gold, and etc. They are becoming role models to people, and I think that could make us be more conservative than before.
