HIFF is over, and it has been a great experience. During the days the film festival was here on Oahu, I saw four films:
- Beyond the Surface
- We are the Giant
- In Order of Disappearance
- The Hip Hop Fellow
Four different films, and that is also why I chose them. I wanted to watch a film about surfing, and through Beyond the Surface I also got to learn some about India.
In Order of Disappearance I just had to see because it is a Norwegian film. It was a special experience to watch a Norwegian movie so far away from home. Check out my blog post about the film by clicking here.
We are the Giant I wanted to see because I think it is an interesting theme, and this documentary was absolutely great. Seeing it I think was the highlight of the film festival for me personally. It got me thinking about how lucky I am, having grown up in a country as Norway. For me, I also think it was an educational film and it was interesting to learn more about the Arabic Spring. I sat left with a feeling that I really wanted to do something. If you click here you can read more about my thoughts about the film.
The Hip Hop Fellow I chose because it seemed interesting, talking about teaching hip-hop at Harvard. Read my review of the film here.
I also participated in the press conference in the beginning of the festival, which was kin of helpful getting me thinking about which movies I would like to see. You can read my blog post about the press conference here.
Generally, participating in HIFF was a great experience for me. I learned to expand my views about what films could be interesting to watch. From now on I want to watch more documentaries because they can be a good way of learning about things you want to learn more about.
I also think the collaboration we have been through is a useful learning experience, because we learn how to approach a big event like this.
At last, I will recommend anyone that have the opportunity to visit the film festival when it´s back next year.
