HONOLULU, HI October 30, 2014.
The HIFF Opening Press Conference was held at the Halekulani Hotel, Waikiki. It was the first press conference I have ever been attending. Hawaii Film Festival is properly not the most famous film festival, at least not for the Europeans. But HIFF is the festival where the east meets the west, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in order to share their best film moments. The films you can experience at HIFF is a mix of big Hollywood movies, documentary, Bollywood movies and films about the Pacific made by Pacific Islanders and a lot more.
HIFF’s Deputy Director, Robert Lambeth opened the press conference and went over the many thanks the Hawaii International Film Festival owed to all its many sponsors, mainly, Halekulani Hotel, and some other major sponsors, Hawai’i Tourism Authority, EuroCinema Hawai’i as well as the City and County of Honolulu.
What I found really interesting was this year’s theme for the festival, ‘My HIFF Moment’. HIFF’s Deputy Director, Robert Lambeth encouraged everyone to use the hashtag #myhiffmoment during the festival, and share the moments with each other. This year’s theme made me wonder, what is a good movie moment? A movie is made of moments, and our movie memories are collected of the moments we believe to be essential for our understanding and appreciation. Moments matter and it is the good moments that make the movie memorable. Film moments are individual, and because of a wide range of movies produced in different countries and a diversified audience the collection of moments will be widespread.

I am really looking forward to find my HIFF moments at the film festival. I will try to join as many films as possible and share my moments here and on twitter. Hope to read about your moments.
