The second film on my list to watch at HIFF was Crows: Explode, a movie focusing on a war between gangs in high school. The setting takes place in Japan and is the third film of the CROWS saga. The film was on my list originally because it involves japan and gangs, not exactly what I’m interested in, but it’s something I find a little entertaining.
The film was filled with violence, obviously and contained a lot of scenes that I thought were a little unnecessary, but still sort of contributed to the plot of the film. Even though I hadn’t seen the first two films in the CROWS saga, it wasn’t hard to keep up with what was going on throughout the story. For me, there were quite a few scenes that contained a little too much blood for my taste and although I should’ve been expecting them, I guess just the way the bloom was presented kind of grossed me out. Nonetheless it was a film that sparked an interest with me.
Altogether the movie was alright. It was fine to watch once, but not more than that. It’s not really a film I would recommend, but if you’re into fights between high school boys then this is your movie. Also, this is the girly side of me talking, but there weren’t any outstandingly attractive guys, which kinda disappointed me.
