Well the film festival is now over and I saw 3 Films in total and attended the opening press conference. I decided to see Model Minority to see the Asian American perspective of my hometown, I saw Eden because I wanted to watch a more serious movie about a movie that shed light on human trafficking within America, and I saw The Thieves because I love action movies and I have never seen a Korean film before so I thought this would be a great chance to see one!
I was able to attend the opening press conference for HIFF. I was surrounded by hugely influential people from the Islands and the mainland and press. And the creative labs were announced there. I felt so lucky to be able to attend something like that and I am so glad that I went. Chuck Boller, executive director, even gave a shout out to HPU students!
The highlight of the festival for me was watching Eden and The Thieves. They were both amazing movies that I would recommend to anyone looking to watch a great film. The great thing about HIFF is that you are surrounded by so many cultures and you learn so much more than you expect.
This was my first time attending the Hawaiian Film Festival, but it definitely won’t be my last. Expect to see me at the upcoming Spring Festival and the next fall festival after that!
