During the opening ceremonies of Hawaiian International Film Festival (HIFF) at the Rum Fire Waikiki, the film “The Sapphires” was mentioned a lot. It was the opening movie for the film festival.
The Australian film has been applauded by critics for it’s catchy tunes and that the girls in the film are actually doing the singing. At this, I am not sure as to why I chose to see this film. Maybe it would have been better had I not gone alone, but I’m not even a fan of musical movies.
What enticed me the most was that it was the opening film or the fact Rottentomatoes.com rated it at a 91%. I went in with the impression that the film was funny and filled with good music. Maybe I was just born into the wrong generation or the wrong part of the world but I did not find it either. Yes, the girls can sing but neither country nor soul music is my preference, which may have been what led to my greatest disappointment.
