So this year was my formal introduction to the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival and it couldn’t have been a more pleasurable experience. I met filmmakers and actors from Japan, Hong Kong, The Philippines, and many more. I was introduced to new people like Georja Skinner and saw familiar faces, Walea Constantinau and Chuck Boller. I consider these three extremely important people that I can continue to learn from and hopefully collaborate with.
However, none of this would be possible without the opportunity given to me my Pete Britos and the University. I got to sit next to other students and watch great films. I got to talk with locals, people from my community who love film. It has been a very busy week, but extremely well worth it.
Capping my HIFF experience was the much anticipated Cloud Atlas. I believe Run Lola Run by Tom Twyker to be one of top 50 movies of all time, so it was nice to see something from him. I had tickets for more films on Sunday, the last day of HIFF but I ended up staying home and taking everything in. I look forward to next year’s festival, hopefully I can have something there for others to enjoy and talk about.
