The Salt of Life takes place in Italy. Gianni, a retired man in his sixties is the main character. The camera follows him throughout his struggles with being an older man with a young man’s thoughts. He still wants to be adored by women but all his attempts seem to fail. Not even his wife gives him the time of day. The concept of this film hits home for me. I have found that as I get older I still want to do the same things that I did when I was younger but my body seems to get in the way. We get wiser with age but that does not mean that we want to give up playing like children. Maybe in the future we will see the day when you can exchange your outer shell for an updated version. Gianni had all the elements of an attractive man but an old wrinkly body was blocking it.
