On Sunday the 16th of October I went to the Afternoon with Hawaii 5-0 at the Halekulani Hotel. I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew the cast was going to be there but I didn’t know how big the audience was and if it would be a mingle or a more formal setting. When I arrived the big convention room was already filled with at least 200 people, all sitting on chairs neatly lined trough out the room. I was there alone so I managed to get a seat at the sixth row. But people all the way in the back surely didn’t see the stage that well. We were told we were absolutely not allowed to make pictures. And I soon found out we weren’t able to ask questions either. There was a host who introduced the director, actors and other crew members one by one and he was also the one asking them questions. What I thought was really bad about the whole event was that his questions weren’t original. Almost every answer started with “We get that question a lot, and I always tell people…” It was pretty obvious the cast were bored by the questions. Alex O’Loughin was really charming and managed to put a smile on the faces of the people in the audience several times. But this was mostly because he just started talking and telling and eventually said: “What was the question you asked me again?”. Leading lady Grace Park couldn’t seem to remember the questions either.
Overall I enjoyed seeing the cast in real life, but I was very disappointed with the host and the photo restriction (but I managed to sneak to the front and make a picture anyway). If I had known this in advance I wouldn’t have paid 18 dollars to attend this event.
